We see the Prophet, Ezekiel, in the latter part of his ministry, as he closes out his prophecies of hope and goodwill from God to His people, Israel. Three-fourths of the prophet’s messages dealt with God’s reproofs and spiritual concerns He shared with His rebellious people in the Babylonian captivity. Though Ezekiel, himself, was among the captives, God had him speaking to his people, so as to give them hope for the enslaved Jewish nation.
The name, Ezekiel, signifies, “The strength of God, or one strengthen of God.” God put strength in Ezekiel to enable him to preach and prophecy hope to the people during very depressed times in Babylon. Whom God calls to any service He will enable the servant to accomplish the assigned work (Acts 7:35).
Ezekiel preached some 593 years before the coming of Christ. He prophesied for twenty-two years about Israel’s future. God is persistent in keeping His words of hope before the people. God has not changed. He is still keeping words of hope before us today. Are you listening?
God has a Word for the women of today. And He is speaking again through the prophet, Ezekiel and the pastor. God wants all women to know that they are special in His sight. He made women special so as to serve Him in a special way in child bearing. Our enemy is set upon destroying God’s plan for the women, especially those women in the church who are serving Him.
We can realize the seriousness of the devil’s attack upon God’s women over the years when we read about the woman and satan (Gen 3:15) , and the woman and the dragon (Rev 12:1-6). “...And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.” Today is no less a serious time for God’s women to be on the lookout for the tricks and lures of the enemy. This warning includes the senior and mature women today as well as the young ones, the real young ones. For this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts.”(2Tim3:6).
Today the enemy of our soul is lulling many women to sleep causing them to lose their spiritual way. Just look around, many women today appear to be living outside of God’s plan for them. Yet God is depending upon them to exercise wisdom, leadership, counsel, healing, and support. All these things represent the hand of God. Women are the hands of God. Creation was not complete until God created the woman out from man. Is it little wonder that the devil first went after the woman in the Garden? It was not that she was seen as being weak by the devil, it was because she was the “key to giving life” to the world. The devil’s strategy was to stop all life from getting into the world. The enemy reasoned that if he could get God to curse the woman for disobeying, he would have been successful in defeating God’s program of salvation for man. God’s woman is always in the cross hairs of the enemy’s poison arrows. She must always be aware of this but not be afraid.
The Word of the Lord comes to God’s woman today. Hear the word of the Lord. God wants all women to live and not die. Some of those dry bones the prophet saw in the valley in his vision were those of women, some were church women. They were dry bones of women out of which the enemy had drained the abundant life (Ezekiel 37:1-4). These are the women who have been hurt and have not healed; who are outside of Christ’s love; these are the women who left their marriages; who are totally materialistic; who are lonely; who are disappointed in the church; these are women who only love themselves, who have aborted without shame, who have live-in caretakers and lovers. These are the women whose bones have been sucked dry by the work of the enemy.
God wants the bones of this spiritually dead woman to come to life. He needs these women to live again. He needs women to comfort and care-take again, share wisdom to the young, teach, heal, lead, in addition to being a strong role model for those who need spiritual guidance and love. God wants virtuous women in His church. A virtuous woman is a strong woman whom God can depend upon to be His caring and comforting hand, to be a spiritual leader in the home and the community. God seeks godly women. Are you out there?
Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; “Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord. Rise up you women of God and take your rightful place before the lord and defeat the enemy in the process!”
